Porsche’s next GT4 could be a 911 – report

production of the Porsche 718 The lineup – which included the Boxster, Cayman and hardcore Cayman GT4 RS – ended in October 2025, but a new report suggests the GT4 name could live on.

According to the United Kingdom Evo magazine, Porsche tested a slimmed-down model 911 Prototype among several vehicles from the GT4 racing category.

While the GT3 and GT4 emblems are synonymous with Porsche’s high-performance road models, they are also names for racing cars in different classes that indicate performance.

In the GT3 and GT4 racing categories, all vehicles in these divisions must be built to exacting specifications to meet “Balance of Performance” standards and ensure that competition depends on driver skill and not budget.

With the 718 no longer in production, Porsche may now turn to the 911 to fill the void for the Sprint Challenge – a one-make series in which competitors compete in track-only Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport cars, with the championships taking place in the UK, North America and Australia.

Per EvoThe end plates of the GT3-derived gooseneck rear wing bear the name “Challenge” in Porsche’s brand font, underlining the theory that a 911 GT4 Clubsport will replace the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport in the Sprint Challenge series.
