The Ford F-150 has been recalled to resolve a software issue that could affect towing capability.
“Due to a software error, the Trailer Module (TRM) may lose communication with the vehicle when a trailer is connected,” Ford Australia said in its recall notice.
“This can cause the trailer to lose braking performance and the turn signals not work as intended.
“Loss of control of the trailer while driving and/or improper operation of the signal lights may increase the risk of an accident resulting in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
- In total 6832 vehicles are affected, produced between 2021 and 2026

If you own an affected vehicle, you must schedule an appointment with an authorized Ford dealer to have the TRM software updated free of charge.

This is the latest recall for the F-150, which has been the subject of multiple recalls and multiple sales halts since its official launch by Ford Australia in 2023. Here’s a breakdown:
- November 2025: Ford recalls 3166 F-150s due to fuel vapor lines potentially coming into contact with the coolant hose and causing a fire.
- January 2024: Ford stops sales and deliveries of the F-150 due to a turbocharger problem.
- January 2024: Ford recalls 443 F-150s due to a remanufacturing issue with the intermediate steering shaft.
- January 2024: Ford recalls an additional nine examples of the F-150 due to a problem with the steering wheel spring assembly weld.
- March 2024: Ford recalls 2020 long-wheelbase F-150s because exterior lighting did not meet Australian standards.
- April 2024: Ford stops delivering the F-150 to its dealers.
- May 2024: Ford stops selling and delivering the F-150 to customers and offers compensation to certain customers.
- May 2024: Ford recalls 4,630 F-150s to address non-compliant exterior lights.
- June 2024: Ford offers further compensation to F-150 owners after issuing recalls for non-compliant lighting.
- July 2024: Ford issues four additional recall notices (again) addressing non-compliant lighting and non-compliant autonomous emergency braking. These recalls affected 2,070 vehicles.
- June 2025: F-150s were included in a recall of nearly 30,000 Fords of various model lines due to a software problem with their rearview cameras.
- July 2025: Ford temporarily suspended sales and deliveries of the F-150 and lifted the order in October.
- August 2025: Ford is recalling 6413 examples of the F-150 (i.e. every example sold in Australia) due to the possibility of rear hub bolts loosening or breaking.
It is worth noting that these recalls are not exclusive to F-150s remanufactured in the Australian market, as the rear axle hub bolt issue also triggered a recall in the US.
