BYD has confirmed it will launch up to eight new models in Australia before the end of 2026.
At a media event, BYD Australia chief operating officer Stephen Collins said the company was launching “a number of new models – I think it’s about seven or eight new models – this year.”
“We won’t go into detail today, but I can assure you that over the next six to eight months we will be leveraging opportunities in the product range and also offering upgrades to a number of our existing models,” Mr Collins said.
“For us it’s about completing the range and offering new energy vehicles to every Australian.

“Whether you want a $23,990 Atto 1 for use in Sydney or Melbourne or whether it’s a Sealion 8 because you have four or five children, we have all the solutions,” he added.
BYD recently launched the Australian market’s cheapest electric vehicle (EV): the Atto 1 costs less than $24,000 (excluding on-road costs) – outperforming many petrol and hybrid city cars.
In addition to the Sealion 8, the BYD Sealion 5 will also be launched in February – the cheapest plug-in hybrid in Australia – and offers three rows of seats with plug-in hybrid drive.
However, it is unclear whether the new models will be sold exclusively under the BYD brand from 2026 or whether the number of up to eight vehicles will also include BYD’s premium brand Denza.
One of the expected vehicles is the Seal 6 sedan and station wagon, both of which appeared in an Australian government approval application last month.
“For us, building the brand is important and building awareness continues to be important,” Collins said Daily Sparkz.
“We just want to keep improving… so it’s just about continually doing it better every day,” he said, explaining that the company is particularly focused on building its dealer network and improving customer service.
“We want to stay humble, but we want to be a respected brand. And that takes time, it takes effort, but we’re doing it in record time. But we’re not going to take our foot off the gas.”
