While Samsung has added numerous camera improvements to the Galaxy S26 series, there’s one that most of us missed at first. As highlighted by Android AuthorityThe Galaxy S26 series also supports a native USB webcam mode, allowing users to connect their phone to a computer and use its camera as a webcam.
However, this isn’t entirely new to Android. Google first introduced this feature to Pixel devices with Android 14 QPR1, and Samsung is now bringing it to its flagship lineup.
How does it actually work?
It’s refreshingly simple. All you need to do is connect your Galaxy S26 to a PC via a USB cable and the phone will give you the option to switch to webcam mode. Once activated, your computer will recognize the phone as a camera. No additional apps, drivers or hacks required.
This is a big step forward from older methods that relied on third-party apps, which were often unreliable or required additional setup. Additionally, optional High Quality mode is also included to ensure you get the most out of your phone’s camera.
Your webcam has just been…replaced?
Let’s face it, your phone camera is already way better than the sad, grainy webcam on your laptop. With the Galaxy S26 acting as a webcam, you can upgrade your video calls virtually overnight without the need for any additional equipment. It also fits into a larger trend in which smartphones are quietly becoming all-in-one devices, replacing webcams, scanners and even point-and-shoot cameras. At this point, your phone basically does everything except make coffee (for now).
However, there are a few catches. The feature is currently limited to the Galaxy S26 series and still requires a wired connection. But honestly, if it means sharper video calls without additional expense, that’s a pretty solid trade-off.
