The next WhatsApp update could bring a simple new upgrade that could significantly improve the calling experience. WhatsApp introduces built-in noise cancellation feature for voice and video calls in the latest beta for Android.
The feature was discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta build for Android, version 2.26.14.1, and is currently available through the Google Play beta program.
Why this update is great for you
As described in a WABetaInfo According to the report, the new option helps filter out background noise in real time so that the speaker’s voice can be heard more clearly. The function is pretty simple. If you answer a call on a busy street, in a crowded room, or anywhere near traffic, WhatsApp is better at cleaning up the background sound before sending it to the recipient.
So this isn’t a flashy new feature, but it’s definitely more of a practical one. Call quality improvements rarely get the same attention as big UI changes, but this is the kind of improvement most people will notice. But considering how noise cancellation affects the sound, users have the option to turn the feature on and off.
How it works
The report notes that some beta testers can now find a new option to manage noise cancellation in the call menu. It’s typically enabled by default when it’s available, so it’s automatically applied to voice and video calls unless the user chooses otherwise.
However, there is a small catch. The feature simply helps the other person hear you more clearly. So turning on noise cancellation on your end only cleans up outgoing audio and doesn’t automatically improve the other caller’s voice for you.
