Sony confirms that its next-generation WF-1000XM6 earbuds will be unveiled next week

Sony has finally set an official date for the release of its next-generation flagship earbuds, the WF-1000XM6. After months of leaks, rumors, and speculation about the design and launch schedule, the company announced the upcoming debut in a short clip on YouTube, calling it the “next generation of earbuds.”

The teaser doesn’t reveal much other than a quick look at the charging case, but it does confirm that the WF-1000XM6 will launch on February 12th. Leaked renders had already suggested that Sony was moving away from the XM5’s rounded design and moving towards a slimmer, pill-shaped form factor, paired with a flatter, more compact charging case.

Sony hasn’t confirmed the official specs yet, but rumors suggest some worthwhile upgrades. These include improved noise cancellation, IPX4 water resistance and support for DSEE Ultimate upscaling – upgrades that could help the XM6 secure a place among the best wireless earbuds on the market. Color choices are expected to include black, platinum silver and a lighter sand pink variant.

The XM6 could bring practical improvements in practice

If the rumored upgrades play out, the WF-1000XM6 could address some of the lingering complaints surrounding the XM5, including fit and long-term comfort. A redesigned shape may also allow Sony to improve battery life, another aspect that is just as important to everyday use as pure sound quality.

Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but Sony will likely position the WF-1000XM6 in the premium segment of the market, similar to its predecessor. With a February 12 launch now set, it won’t be long before we see if the next-generation earbuds can live up to the hype.
