Samsung says its micro RGB TVs probably won’t extend your sleep cycle

We’ve all heard the saying, “Screens before bed are bad.” Still, I somehow found myself looking at screens to fall asleep after working on screens for about eight to ten hours a day. Well, I might consider switching to Samsung’s Micro RGB TVs for both my work and play as they recently received certification for being eye and sleep friendly.

In a press release, the Korean tech giant announced that its Micro RGB TV (model R95H) has received two certifications from VDE (a German testing agency).

What certifications has the Samsung TV received?

The Samsung TV has received Safety for Eyes certification and Circadian Rhythm Display (CRD) certification. Without getting too technical, the R95H model has been officially tested not to harm your eyes or your sleep, especially in the hours after sunset when too much blue light consumption can disrupt your sleep cycle.

This is how it works. The first certification, Safety for Eyes, takes into account blue light emissions – the wavelength most commonly associated with eye strain and sleep problems – and confirms that the TV meets safe limits for extended viewing sessions.

The second method, Circadian Rhythm Display (CRD) verification, goes one step further and confirms that the TV is indeed mimicking the pattern of natural light. The TV tends to produce cooler tones during the day, warmer tones in the evening and, most importantly, reduce blue light at night.

How do the compatible TVs do it?

Essentially, it doesn’t force your brain to think it’s midday by creating cool light when it’s midnight, so watching TV doesn’t disrupt your sleep cycle. But how does the television do all this?

Well, it’s Samsung’s Micro RGB LED architecture that allows the display to make fine-grained adjustments to the screen’s overall brightness and color profile, with a higher level of precision not found on other models.

While Safety for Eyes certification will be available across the company’s entire TV lineup in 2026, Circadian Rhythm Display (CRD) is currently available on the premium models.
