It seems that the next challenge for AI services is health. Microsoft recently launched Copilot Health, a service that ingests your health data from multiple sources to generate actionable insights.
Now Perplexity has launched Perplexity Health, a series of connectors that link your personal health data directly to Perplexity Computer, delivering answers that truly relate to you.
What makes Perplexity Health different from a regular AI health search?
Currently, your health data is spread across multiple platforms. Lab results are stored in one portal, recipes in another, and fitness data is buried in a separate app. Perplexity Health brings everything together in one place, unlocking insights that would otherwise remain hidden.
At launch, it will connect to Apple Health, electronic health records from over 1.7 million healthcare providers, and platforms such as Fitbit, Ultrahuman, and Withings. Oura and Function are coming soon.
When you ask a question about your health, data from your activity trackers, lab reports and medical history are compared to provide a detailed, personalized answer. “For example, a question about resting heart rate can take into account your most recent activities, your heart history and your most recent blood values,” the press release says.
It also creates a personalized dashboard that tracks your biomarkers and activity trends over time, so you always have an overview of the bigger picture.
Can you trust the answers it gives you?
As stated in the press release, the answers in Perplexity Health are based on clinical guidelines and peer-reviewed journals, rather than SEO-optimized content written to rank on Google. It continues: “Each answer contains quotes linked directly to the source material, so you can read what the answer is based on.”
Perplexity has also established a Healthcare Advisory Board comprised of physicians, researchers and healthcare technology leaders to guide product decisions and maintain clinical standards.
When it comes to privacy, Perplexity promises that data will be encrypted in transit and at rest, will never be used to train AI models, and will never be sold to third parties. You can disconnect any source or delete your information at any time.
Personally, I would wait a few months to see how things develop before giving an AI service access to my health records. However, if you want to try it now, Perplexity Health on Computer will be available to Pro and Max users in the US in the coming weeks.
