Nintendo’s latest product wants to cheer you up with random jokes

Nintendo is back with another wonderfully crazy product for your home. While the new Talking Flower isn’t nearly as practical as Alarmo, the $100 five-alarm, Nintendo-style alarm clock, it aims to win you over in a different way by cheering you up with a steady stream of quirky, Mario-inspired jokes.

Nintendo first introduced the Talking Flower during a Nintendo Direct presentation last September. The company has now revealed further details about the product and confirmed when it will officially go on sale. Based on the flowers in the Super Mario Bros. Wonder game, the Talking Flower is exactly what its name suggests: a potted flower that speaks about twice an hour and says things like “Sometimes it’s nice to keep your distance” or “Bowser and his buds can’t bring us here, can they?” delivers.

The Talking Flower has a single button that allows you to trigger a random line with a short press or mute it for a while by holding the button for two seconds. Nintendo adds that pressing the button repeatedly will unlock a special message. You can also set wake-up and bedtime schedules so that the flower greets you in the morning and wishes you a good night while remaining calm while you sleep. It even includes time-based phrases and can tell the time, although Nintendo notes that this may not always be accurate.

The talking flower can also sense the room temperature and say things like “It’s cooler today, right?” It warns you when the battery is low and has a music mode that plays a familiar background tune and shouts random phrases with every button press.

The Talking Flower supports eleven languages including English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Dutch, French, Japanese, Chinese and Korean. It’s available to pre-order now and will be available on March 12th for $34.99 at My Nintendo Store and select retailers.
