The facelift Cupra was born was unveiled with a more aggressive exterior and an upgraded interior with a more luxurious feel and some old-school switchgear.
Externally, the Born appears even sportier than before. Up front, there’s a new C-shaped headlight cluster with triangular elements with optional Matrix LED lighting and a more sculpted bumper.
At the back, the tailgate has been optimized to accommodate new taillights with triangular graphics and an illuminated Cupra emblem. The rear bumper design has been taken to a new level with an eye-catching diffuser-style element.

Timanfaya Gray joins the color options alongside Glacial White, Midnight Black, Aurora Blue, Vapor Gray and Dark Forest. Depending on the model, the Born has 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels.
Cupra has addressed many of the complaints raised about the interior of the original Born as well as the closely related Volkswagen ID.3.
Adjusting settings, skipping tracks, turning down the volume, setting the air conditioning correctly, and opening and closing windows will hopefully be a lot easier now.
There’s a new steering wheel that replaces the spokes’ capacitive pads with physical buttons and roller switches, which should prevent accidental presses. Meanwhile, the capacitive sliders under the main touchscreen are illuminated so they can be used even at night.
The door panels have been redesigned to include more premium materials, including faux suede on higher trim levels and Cupra’s signature copper accent color. The biggest improvement, however, is the integration of four separate power window switches on the driver’s door.
Previously there were only two switches with a toggle button to determine whether they controlled the front or rear windows.
In front of the driver is a 10.25-inch instrument display, replacing the previous 5.3-inch screen, while in the center of the dashboard there is a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with a revised user interface and an Android-based operating system.
Other changes include a redesigned headlight control panel and the addition of rear vents. Bucket seats are standard on all Born variants, with the range-topping VZ having grippier CUP bucket seats.
| Motor | Battery capacity | reach | Max DC fast charging | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plus | 140kW | 58 kWh | ~450km | TBC |

In Europe there will be three motor-battery configurations, all with an electric motor to drive the rear wheels and the possibility of one-pedal driving.
The VZ features a new launch control setup, as well as paddles to control the amount of regenerative braking and a “new interior sound signature that adds emotional depth to the driving environment.”
According to Cupra, the 240kW/545Nm VZ is capable of completing the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 200km/h.
It’s unclear which of these will arrive Down Under, but Cupra Australia has previously promised and delayed the hot VZ model.
