More Denza Z9 GT Details have been revealed ahead of its launch in Australia later this year, when it will launch with a distinctive shooting brake design and an 850kW three-motor electric powertrain – with a plug-in hybrid potentially on the way too.
The Z9 GT has been confirmed for a local berth ahead of last week’s Melbourne Motor Show, where it made its Australian debut. An updated version of the show car will arrive in showrooms ahead of the first deliveries scheduled for September 2026.
It will have five seats, with the show car using an older four-seat configuration and three-motor all-wheel drive drivetrain, skipping the single-motor, rear-wheel drive version sold abroad.
Pricing for the latest Denza has not yet been announced. It will be available in local showrooms alongside the B5 and B8 plug-in hybrid off-road vehicles (PHEV) and the D9 electric people mover.

The Z9 GT will be offered overseas with a choice of PHEV and battery-electric powertrains, but while Denza Australia is only launching the model as an EV, it says it is still evaluating the hybrid for the local lineup.
“We had the opportunity to do both,” said Denza Australia and New Zealand chief operating officer Mark Harland Daily Sparkz.
In 2025, the Z9 GT was announced as a PHEV for Australia due to increasing hybrid sales locally and the possibility of a lower starting price as the Denza brand establishes itself here.
Mr Harland explained that the decision to forgo the hybrid powertrain for now came as upgrades for the Z9 GT – which was first shown at the 2024 Beijing Motor Show in China – became available.
“We’re starting with EV because last year we didn’t know flash charging would be available to us, so to me that’s the deciding factor,” he said. “That wasn’t available to us last year.”
“If people ask us if there is a DM (Denza-speak for hybrid) version, we will investigate that to see if we want to introduce it, but we want to start with our best step forward, which is the new battery with the long-range flash charger.”
The Z9 GT PHEV features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, three electric motors and a 63.8 kWh battery pack that enables a CLTC range of 400 km.
The electric vehicle’s flash charging capability is thanks to the updated “Blade 2” battery, with Denza parent company BYD being one of the world’s largest manufacturers of electric vehicle batteries.
It has a power output of 1500 kW, which at this speed allows charging from 10 to 97 percent of the claimed range of 820 km in nine minutes.
“Flash charging with a car that can travel over 800 km and charge in less than nine minutes almost negates the reason for bringing the DM,” said the Denza boss. “That wasn’t available to us last year.”
Denza, a premium division of BYD, is launching its own flash charger network in Australia with speeds of up to 1500kW – four times faster than what is currently offered here.
In Phase 1, following initial deliveries of the Z9 GT between October and December 2026, the first three Chargers in Australia will go live at Denza dealers in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
Phase two will expand chargers to BYD dealers – and be open to drivers of all brands of electric vehicles – with phase III expected to include partnerships with suppliers to further increase the availability of fast chargers.
The move follows the rollout of charging infrastructure from Tesla and other electric vehicle brands, including Zeekr, as well as the federal government’s $40 million commitment late last year to expand public electric vehicle charging nationwide.
“Now that (fast charging) is available to us in Australia we can do our best and so we think it’s the best way to lead the way with it as we build our order bank, which is starting now,” Mr Harland said.
