Cupra Raval EV teased again ahead of upcoming reveal

Cupra’s all-new baby electric vehicle (EV) will launch on April 9th European time, with the Spanish brand making the official announcement alongside a teaser image of the car’s ‘culo’.

The 2027 Cupra Raval will be the first vehicle to ride on Volkswagen Group’s new MEB+ electric vehicle platform, which will underpin the group’s new affordable electric vehicle range including the VW ID. Polo, ID. Cross and Skoda Epiq.

Prices in Europe are expected to start at around €26,000 (A$43,422), which while it doesn’t seem like anything exciting when converted directly, does position the baby EV hatch well below a base Leon in Spain. The small hatch costs 31,632 euros (A$52,828) in the home market.

Cupra’s global headquarters has detailed three variants for the introductory range: Dynamic, Dynamic Plus and VZ Extreme.

The Dynamic and Dynamic Plus are powered by a 155 kW front electric motor with a WLTP range of up to 450 km. Basic equipment includes LED headlights, heated and electrically adjustable front bucket seats, a rearview camera with front and rear sensors, and a six-speaker sound system as standard.

The Dynamic Plus upgrade adds Matrix LED headlights, keyless entry, a 12-speaker Sennheiser sound system, ambient interior lighting, satellite navigation, 360-degree cameras and the option for semi-autonomous driving with Travel Assist.

Finally, in Europe, the VZ Extreme model will receive a more powerful 166 kW engine with an electronic limited-slip differential, while the range drops to 400 km WLTP. Features upgrades include a fixed panoramic glass roof, Sulfur exterior accents and sportier cup-bucket front seats with driver memory function.

Cupra has confirmed that the Raval will be available with 38kWh and 56kWh batteries – the same ones found in the ID.Polo – with the Cupra to be built alongside the Volkswagen at a production facility in Martorell, Spain.

As for Australia, the local Cupra division has previously stated that it is interested in the new electric hatchback, although the final timing has not yet been confirmed.

Given that April’s unveiling points to a European launch in the second half of 2026, it’s unlikely the Raval will dock Down Under until 2027 at the earliest – although we might be surprised.

The Raval is slotted below the Born in the Spanish brand’s electric vehicle range, and given its positioning compared to the Leon overseas, so is its price could Start with a “3”. Still, it’s still a little early to know how it will be positioned in Australia.
