Chery Tiggo V is touted as the flagship “transformable” SUV

At the Beijing Motor Show this week Chery will introduce a new flagship SUV called Tiggo Vwhich promises an extremely versatile interior.

The new teaser you see here appears to be in line with the Tiggo V concept that was quietly unveiled in Kuwait in January, a large, boxy SUV with a design similar to last year’s 6=1 “Transformable Multi-SUV” concept.

According to Chery, the Tiggo V is a “global core model” with a “transformable vehicle concept” with “flexible seating and configurable interior” that allows it to be transformed from an urban commuter into a “capable weekend adventure vehicle or functional cargo carrier.”

The Chinese brand also promises that the Tiggo V will feature an efficient powertrain, a spacious interior, advanced vehicle technology and “capability in a wide range of road conditions.”

However, there is currently no confirmation on the specifications including dimensions nor what type of powertrain will be used. Full details will be confirmed following the unveiling at the Beijing trade fair, which begins this Friday (April 24).

It’s unclear how closely it will follow the 6=1 concept, a three-row SUV measuring 4.9 meters long – 100mm longer than the Tiggo 9 – and a removable hardtop at the rear.

According to Chery, the 6=1 concept features six different interior and exterior layouts, including a “Double-Cab Pickup Mode” with a load area with 600 liters of storage space, four tie-down points and adjustable partitions.

There’s also a “Camper Mode” that supports accessories like awnings and pop-up rooftop tents.

Unlike the Deepal E07, which can be transformed from an SUV into a quasi-ute at the touch of a button, the 6=1 has a manually removable hardtop that weighs 30kg and can be removed in 25 minutes without any power tools.

The Tiggo V shown in Kuwait has a similar boxy body, but appears to be missing that unusual rear roof.

Chery may be using the Beijing trade fair to introduce a new, production-ready large SUV with a cleverly configurable cabin but without a manually removable hardtop.
