In addition to introducing a new conversational, AI-powered design workflow, Canva today announced that it is expanding beyond design with integrations aimed at making it easier for users to access information from commonly used productivity tools without leaving the platform. The Canva AI 2.0 update focuses on reducing the need to switch between apps when creating and managing projects.
Pull data from connected apps
New connectors allow users to connect Canva to services like Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Zoom, and Notion. This allows the AI to get context from conversations, files and schedules to generate relevant content.
For example, users can convert meeting minutes into summaries, convert email threads into structured documents, or create newsletters based on team activities in Slack. The goal of connectors is to reduce the friction of moving information between apps and ensure that nothing important is lost in the process. By keeping everything on a single interface, the platform also aims to streamline workflows and save time.
Similar features are already available in other AI tools that can get context from documents and conversations in connected apps. However, Canva’s approach ties this directly into content creation, allowing users to act on this information without leaving the platform.
The content remains consistent and structured across all tasks
Canva also adds built-in web research, allowing users to collect information from across the web and integrate it directly into their projects. Additionally, a new “Brand Intelligence” feature helps ensure that everything a user generates is consistent with their brand’s style, tone and visual identity, reducing the need for manual edits.
Additionally, a new “Sheets AI” feature can create structured spreadsheets filled with relevant data, from project schedules to content calendars. These sheets come pre-filled and formatted and are ready to use with no setup required. Taken together, these features aim to transform Canva from a design tool into a more unified workspace, where content creation, data, and context are connected, rather than scattered across multiple apps.
Canva AI 2.0 launches today as a research preview and will be rolled out to the first one million users who discover it on the Canva homepage. The company says it will expand access to more users in the coming weeks.
