Volkswagen Touareg recalled due to fire risk

The Volkswagen Touareg R The plug-in hybrid performance SUV (PHEV) is being recalled due to a fire risk due to a battery defect.

“Due to a manufacturing problem, the cell modules installed in the high-voltage battery may be defective and overheat during charging. In this case, a vehicle fire could occur,” the company’s recall notice states.

“Until the software is installed, we ask that consumers refrain from charging the high-voltage battery using an external charging source and not drive in purely electric mode.”

“We also ask you to select the “battery hold” setting in hybrid mode with a maximum charge level of 50 percent. These measures are necessary for the safety of your vehicle.

“Of course, you can continue to drive your vehicle on gasoline without any concerns.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders and/or property damage.”
