Tesla’s brand value fell by 35 percent last year

The value of the Tesla According to an annual survey of the world’s most valuable brands – which is its arch-rival – the brand has plunged 35 percent in the last 12 months BYD made it into the top 100 list for the first time.

The Interbrand Best Global Brands Top 100 has existed for more than 25 years and assesses the brand equity of some of the largest companies in the world.

It uses a combination of factors such as sales, presence, profitability, public profile and “brand strength” to rank brands across the board.

This year, Tesla slipped from 12th place in 2024 to 25th, with its value estimated at $29.5 billion (A$45.6 billion) less than a year ago – a 35 percent decline.

This is because Tesla suffered significant declines in sales in Europe, China, the US and Australia for various reasons. This included CEO Elon Musk’s interference in US and world politics as well as production gaps between model changes.

Despite the decline, the electric vehicle (EV) maker remained the fourth most valuable automotive brand on the list.

Toyota ranked sixth overall, the highest of any automaker, as it did in 2024, and was valued at $74.2 billion (AUD$114.7 billion), an improvement of 2.0 percent year-on-year.

Mercedes-Benz was the second best-selling car brand at No. 10 (previously No. 8), and its value fell 15.1 percent to US$50.1 billion (A$74.2 billion), with BMW at No. 14 (No. 10 in 2024), ahead of Tesla at No. 25.
