If you’ve always wanted to own a Ford GT with Hollywood origins, this could be your chance. Formerly owned by actor/comedian Tim Allen, this 2017 Ford GT (Serial Number H074 and VIN: 2FAGP9CW3HH200074) is being sold through Silver Arrow Cars Ltd. auctioned by Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale. One of approximately 1,350 examples built, the car has just 937 original miles on the clock.
Tim received this GT from Galpin Ford in Los Angeles, one of the top performance dealers in the country. Painted in Ingot Silver with optional gloss carbon fiber accents and matching 20-inch wheels, it’s equipped with a Heffner titanium exhaust, factory-protected paint, and blue-painted brake calipers. In the interior, Sparco seats with carbon backs and Alcantara cover match the “Dark Energy” theme. The cabin also features a driver-adjustable pedal box, air conditioning and a touchscreen infotainment unit, rare courtesy in such a hardcore device.
Ford developed the third-generation GT to prove this. Developed with the Chip Ganassi Racing program that achieved a class victory at Le Mans in 2016, exactly 50 years after the historic victory in 1966. It is as close as possible to a race car with license plates.
At its heart is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 that produces 647 hp and 550 Nm of torque. Mated to a seven-speed Getrag dual-clutch transmission, it accelerates from zero to 60 miles per hour in three seconds and can reach a speed of 216 miles per hour at full throttle. It can generate 1.11 g of lateral grip and stop from 70 mph in just 145 feet. Brembo carbon ceramic brakes and lightweight carbon fiber wheels ensure it stays razor sharp even under pressure.
The chassis is a carbon fiber monocoque built by Multimatic in Canada with FIA-approved roll cage sections hidden in the roof. The hydraulically controlled pushrod suspension technology comes straight from endurance racing. The teardrop-shaped profile of the body, the flying buttresses and the active rear wing control airflow, cooling and downforce. The GT is just 43.7 inches tall, and when you switch to Track mode it drops another five inches.
When new, Ford carefully selected each owner through a private application process. Given his racing history and long association with Ford performance, Allen’s inclusion was no surprise. Tim sold the car in October with 671 miles on it. The car was subsequently offered for sale in 2022 by its second owner with 739 miles. Now this preserved, low mileage, 937 mile GT is back on the market with full documentation and accessories as well as its original exhaust.
For those who follow Ford history, this car combines decades of history from the GT40’s Le Mans triumph in 1966 to the GT victory in 2016. Expect Tim Allen’s GT to attract a lot of interest when it goes on sale this January. It’s a rare combination of technology, provenance and American racing heritage.
