Microsoft just made Surface laptops and tablets significantly more expensive

Microsoft is the next brand to hit its computing devices with a significant price hike, and it’s far from subtle. The brand’s popular Surface laptops are seeing rising prices across the lineup. And the lack of memory and component costs are still to blame. The updated prices are already visible in the Microsoft Store for the current generation hardware portfolio.

How big are the price increases?

The most noticeable jumps were in Microsoft’s flagship devices. According to Windows Central, the Surface Pro 13-inch, which originally launched for $999, now starts at $1,499. Meanwhile, the Surface Laptop 13.8-inch saw a similar jump from $999 to $1,499. In other words, both laptops now cost $500 more than they did at launch.

The increases are not limited to the end of the premium either. The Surface Pro 12-inch, which launched in 2025 for $799, is currently listed for $1,049, while Microsoft’s entry-level 13-inch Surface laptop has risen from $899 to $1,149 and the 15-inch Surface laptop is now $1,599 instead of $1,299 US dollars costs. Even the cheaper Surface options don’t penetrate areas that were previously reserved for flagship models.

What is the cause of this price increase?

Microsoft has attributed the change directly to rising memory and component costs, as the company is not immune to greater supply pressure in the RAM market. The explanation may seem reasonable, but it doesn’t make the sticker shock any easier to swallow. Mid-range Surface devices now start at over $1,000, while flagship models start at $1,500. It’s no wonder that the MacBook Neo, priced at $599, is seeing such high demand.

If you already thought Surface hardware was expensive, it’s now a lot harder to defend.
