The EX30 has been the subject of recalls in various global markets due to an issue with its battery pack, with Volvo Car Australia recalling 2815 examples in January 2026.
A replacement recall in March 2026 increased the number of affected vehicles to 3,344. For comparison: Volvo Car Australia delivered 3,560 EX30s from market launch to the end of February 2026.
“Due to a manufacturing problem, the cell modules installed in the high-voltage battery can overheat at high charge levels. In this case, a vehicle fire could occur,” the company’s recall notice says.
Over 40,000 EX30s have been recalled worldwide due to this issue.
In the absence of a physical solution, Volvo advises owners to keep their EX30’s battery level below 70 percent.
If you have any further questions about the recall, owners are also advised to contact Volvo Car Australia customer service on 1300 787 802.
The EX30’s batteries come from Shandong Geely Sunwoda Power Battery Co, a joint venture backed by Volvo’s parent company Geely.
Volvo is one of several brands that have had to issue a recall in Australia in recent years over a battery problem that could cause a fire.
Others include Audi, Cupra, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Mini and Porsche.
The EX30 hit the Australian market in 2024 and was the brand’s smallest SUV.
It shares its Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) underpinnings with other models from the Geely empire, including the Smart #1 and Smart #3, as well as the Zeekr X.
