calls back over 13,000 due to a defect that may cause the electric power steering to stop working.
“Affected HiLux vehicles were equipped with a Toyota Genuine Accessory bull bar or collision bar with light bar where the wiring harness may have been installed incorrectly,” the company said in its recall notice.
“This can affect the ground connection to the EPS (Electric Power Steering) module and potentially cause the EPS to stop functioning.
“The loss of power steering increases steering effort at low speeds, potentially increasing the risk of a crash and resulting in injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

If you own an affected vehicle, you must schedule an appointment with an authorized Toyota dealer to inspect it and, if necessary, correct the EPS ground terminal alignment free of charge.
Toyota says the inspection and correction will take approximately 30 minutes, but depending on the dealer’s work schedule, you may need to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time.
