Motorola leak reveals the upcoming Razr 70 Ultra and doesn’t want to change anything about it

In typical Motorola fashion, the Razr series has leaked again, and this time we’re taking our first proper look at the Razr 70 Ultra. The renderings come courtesy of XpertPick in collaboration with Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as OnLeaks on X (formerly Twitter).

Is there anything fresh here?

The Motorola Razr 70 Ultra doesn’t really cause a stir. According to Steve Hemmerstoffer it should measure approximately 9.6mm thickincluding the camera bump and approximately 17.63 mm when foldedCameras included. So don’t expect it to feel any different in the hand than last year’s Razr 60 Ultra. And visually it’s more of the same story. You still get the large 7-inch foldable display on the inside and a 4-inch protective screen on the outside. This sounds great until you realize we’ve seen this before.

At this point, it’s hard to ignore the feeling that Motorola is playing it safe. There’s no bold redesign or major change, nothing that really makes you stop and look twice. From what we can tell so far, it feels less like a new generation and more like a refresh with a new name.

What am I actually thinking?

I’ll be honest, nothing here really screams “new”. From what we’ve seen so far, the Razr 70 Ultra feels almost exactly the same as its predecessor, the Razr 60 Ultra. And of course I’m willing to wait and see what Motorola brings to the table internally. Specs, performance, software tricks – these things can still make a difference. But if history is anything to go by, this may just be another do-it-all situation.

Now it’s not always a bad thing to stick with the same design. Familiarity has its own charm, and if something is already working, there is no need to fix it. But there’s a fine line between consistency and complacency, and here it feels a little too safe. At some point you expect a brand to set new standards, especially in a category as exciting as foldables. Because let’s face it: if there is no real innovation, it will be harder to take these devices seriously. And in an increasingly competitive environment, playing it safe every year isn’t the best strategy in the long run.

There is currently no official information about when the Razr 70 Ultra will launch. If Motorola follows its usual plan, we’ll likely see it debut in China first, with a broader rollout to other markets shortly after.
