Tesla has opened orders for the new one Model YL in Australia and New Zealand, marking the first time the larger three-row version of its popular electric SUV will be exported outside of China.
Price from $74,900 excluding on-road costs (or NZD$83,900 across the ditch), the Model YL is offered in a single Premium Long Range AWD trim, similar to that of the regular Model Y – but with a few extras.
Orders for the six-seat YL model are open now, with deliveries beginning in the second quarter (April to June) of 2026.
Highlights include a tailored, longer body with a longer wheelbase as well as a higher roofline for a “comfort-oriented” seating arrangement – speaking of which, it offers a 2+2+2 configuration.
It also introduces vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality for Tesla in Australia and New Zealand, which can deliver 3.3 kW of output power to external devices or systems via an available adapter.

Under the hood, the YL Premium Long Range AWD model delivers 378kW of system power and 590Nm of torque from its twin-motor electric drive, which equates to 0-100km/h acceleration in just 5.0 seconds. At full throttle it reaches a top speed of 201 km/h.
Range is listed at 681km according to the WLTP cycle, suggesting that the extra wheelbase contributed to a larger battery compared to the equivalent Model Y – although Tesla hasn’t confirmed any specific battery details other than NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) chemistry. For reference, the Model Y Premium Long Range AWD claims 600 km on the WLTP cycle.
Tesla says the Model YL offers the same charging speed and time as the Model Y Long Range and Performance versions, with a 10-80 percent charge taking approximately 25-30 minutes at a peak DC charging capacity of 250 kW. 11 kW AC charging is also standard.
At 4969mm, the Model YL is 177mm longer overall than the regular Model Y, with 150mm of that coming from an extended wheelbase that provides more passenger space in the second and third rows. In addition, it is 44 mm higher than the five-seat model and the drag coefficient is 0.216 cc.
The 2026 Model YL is also the first Tesla to launch with an ANCAP safety rating, earning a maximum of five stars, based largely on the five-seat Model Y – although additional assessments, including documentation, whiplash and child seat installation, were carried out by independent crash testing authority CrashLabs in Sydney.
Other distinguishing features of the new YL Long Range AWD model include new 19-inch “Machina 2.0” wheels with removable aero covers, which feature staggered tires similar to the Y Performance model – albeit with 255/45 front and 275/45 rear rubber.
There’s also a redesigned C-pillar, a taller roofline, a Model Y Performance-inspired rear spoiler and an exclusive Cosmic Silver exterior paint finish – a $2,600 option in Australia (or $3,000 NZD). On the back, the “MODEL Y” lettering also has “two shadow lines” to indicate the additional row of seats.
Inside, the seating features an “all-new” design throughout, with heated and ventilated first- and second-row seats, all of which are electrically adjustable, as well as a heated third row. The second-row captain’s chairs also feature power armrests with one-touch controls, while the second and third rows are power-folding.
ISOFIX and top tether points can be found in all four rear seat positions, and a new Zen Gray interior color option is available exclusively for the YL model.
In addition, the Model YL features continuously variable damping in addition to the basic suspension of the Model Y and offers two selectable suspension modes – Balanced or Rear Comfort.
The specification details are rounded off by a stated curb weight of 2,088 kg and a braked towing capacity of 1,588 kg. An original towing package is available as a “service item after delivery”.
With the rear seats folded down (electrically), up to 2,539 liters of cargo volume is available, of which 420 liters are behind the third row of seats and 1,076 liters with the rearmost seat folded down. There is also a 116L “Frunk” under the hood up front.
As with the broader Tesla range in Australia and New Zealand, the Model YL comes with a five-year vehicle warranty with unlimited mileage and five years of roadside assistance.
In addition, the battery and drive unit are guaranteed for eight years or 192,000 km – whichever comes first – with a retention of at least 70 percent battery capacity over this period, like the Model Y Premium Long Range.
The YL model is now available to order in Australia and New Zealand. Australian test drive vehicles are hitting showrooms from today.
