Volvo EX30Owners will soon be able to use their vehicle as a power source, with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality available as part of updates rolled out overseas for the 2026 model year.
As the first Volvo to offer this technology, the EX30 will receive V2L via an over-the-air (OTA) software update planned later this year. Volvo Australia has confirmed the update will be available locally, giving both existing owners and new buyers access to the feature.
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) allows the use of an electric vehicle (EV) as a power source for portable devices and devices connected to the battery.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5, BYD Atto 3 and Kia EV6 are among the electric vehicles currently sold in Australia with V2L capability, with the feature initially limited to the EX30 in Volvo’s local lineup.

A more specific timing for the EX30’s V2L feature is yet to be announced, Volvo Australia says Daily Sparkz The OTA update is expected to be available in the second half of 2026.
A new bright “Harvest” interior trim is also offered for the EX30, inspired by “Scandinavian summer evenings”. However, Australian customers will have to wait until the 2027 model year for the updated interior to become available locally.
However, Australia will miss out on an expanded range recently announced for the UK, which also includes a redesigned interface with customization options across the range.
For the 2026 model year, the UK range also gets a new, cheaper entry-level EX30 with a 110kW single electric motor in the rear and a smaller 51kWh battery, said to offer a range of 339km on the WLTP cycle. This variant is not planned for Australia.
In comparison, the three EX30 model grades currently sold here all use a larger 69kWh battery. The EX30 Urban and EX30 Plus feature a 200kW single-motor rear-wheel drivetrain with a claimed WLTP range of 462km.
The flagship EX30 Cross Country also has a second engine and all-wheel drive, produces 315 kW and offers a WLTP range of 417 km.
Volvo Australia says it currently has no plans to introduce additional model grades or a lower specification powertrain locally, with the EX30 Urban remaining the cheapest variant at $59,990 before on-road costs.
It also means Australia will miss out on a second single-engine Cross Country variant – called Cross Country Plus and expected to use the same 200kW engine offered here – which has also been announced for the UK.
