Your Pixel 10 can now run Steam games offline (sort of)

Smartphones posing as slot machines are nothing new, but the Pixel 10 just did something that actually feels a little wild. You can now run full-fledged Steam PC games on it. Offline. On a phone.

And no, this isn’t cloud streaming or some remote desktop trick. This is true local emulation, and for Pixel users that’s a pretty big deal.

Pixel 10 Can Now Run Steam Games (Finally Properly)

The big unlock comes from GameNative 0.9.0, which adds initial support for the Pixel 10’s PowerVR GPU, something most Android PC emulators have ignored in the past. Emulation on Android has long been optimized for Snapdragon chips with Adreno GPUs, with limited support for Mali and almost nothing for PowerVR. This update finally brings Pixel devices back into the conversation.

This will now allow users to run select Steam titles such as Hades and Stardew Valley locally on the device without the need for an internet connection once everything is set up. The update also brings a number of useful upgrades. There’s desktop mode support for a more PC-like experience on external displays, improved keyboard and mouse compatibility, Steam Workshop integration, and even better control over downloads and storage.

Of course, this is still a pre-release version, so bugs, crashes and performance issues are currently an integral part of the game.

This isn’t just a cool trick

At first glance, it feels like another emulator update. But it actually fixes a long-standing problem where Pixel phones lag behind in emulation due to limited GPU support. With GameNative changing this, Pixel users are finally back in the game, and it’s a bigger change than it seems. It also hints at a future where phones with the right setup can realistically handle PC-level gaming.

We’re not quite there yet, but this is real progress. And if the early builds can do this, your phone functioning as a Steam machine won’t be that far off.
