X’s Grok AI now overcomes language barriers and allows editing photos using simple command prompts

Elon Musk

What’s new at X?

The company has introduced automatic translation for posts globally, allowing users to instantly read content in their preferred language without having to tap on the translation option. The feature, based on xAI’s Grok models, aims to give posts greater global reach while reducing friction in cross-lingual conversations. Users who prefer the original text can still disable translations for each language.

We’re rolling out automatic translation worldwide to give posts in any language a global reach on X.

The translations are provided by Grok and have improved significantly in the last few months.

In addition to translation, X has also introduced a new in-app photo editor for iOS. The tool gives users access to basic editing options like drawing, text overlays, and blur controls for hiding sensitive information like faces or personal details.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are introducing a brand new photo editor in our Post Composer.

It has long overdue features like drawing and text. But we have also added special add-ons that only apply to X:

The editor also uses AI to help users edit images with natural language prompts. According to X product lead Nikita Bier, users can ask Grok to transform images in specific ways. For example, you can ask Grok to transform a regular photo into something that resembles a painting. Currently the feature is limited to X’s iOS app, but Android support is coming soon.

What does this mean for users?

With these additions, X is trying to get users to spend more time in its app instead of relying on third-party tools. Other social media platforms have released similar AI-driven translation features, and X is now joining the fight to make Grok a central part of the way people create and engage on the platform.

Whether this initiative pays off ultimately depends on its implementation. If these tools felt truly useful and intuitive, they could make posting and discovery more seamless. If not, they risk fading into the background as features ignored by more users add complexity without significantly improving the experience.
