This absolutely cute Chinese electric vehicle costs just $6,200 and goes over 190 miles

China has never had a problem making things affordable, and electric vehicles are no exception. Still, $6,200 for a feature-packed electric vehicle with a 190-mile range and, not to mention, exceptionally charming looks, is enough to turn heads without emptying your wallet.

Meet the 2026 Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, the car that not only undercuts the competition, but also makes the competition look like it’s blinding you. The automaker launched it in late March 2026, offering four variants priced between about $6,200 and $7,600 (before subsidies).

What does $6,200 actually buy?

Actually quite a lot. The 2026 model features a redesigned exterior that Wuling describes as a “sweet square.” Imagine a boxy but handsome exterior, with round LED headlights that look like they’re constantly surprised.

Inside, there’s a 10.1-inch touchscreen above a dashboard with over a dozen storage compartments, perhaps because the manufacturer believes commuters carry a lot of stuff. There is a column-mounted gear selector that frees up space in the center console.

The HVAC system also supports remote air conditioning for hot summers. And just in case you really want to carry a shockingly large amount of stuff, the rear seats fold flat to provide 838 liters of cargo space (that’s a lot). Fast charging charges the battery from 30% to 80% in just 35 minutes.

Why should you care about the small electric vehicle?

And now the most interesting part. The top-of-the-line Hongguang Mini EV offers a range of up to 187 miles (around 301 kilometers) on the Chinese CLTC, which could be around 130 miles by EPA standard (but that’s just an approximation based on the general trend).

Anyway, the range is enough for the daily commuter, his daily errands, the trip to the office and the occasional short road trip, and there’s a reason I say that. Wuling’s Hongguang Mini EV ended 2025 as China’s second best-selling battery electric vehicle, with sales increasing 55% year-on-year to 427,000 units; That’s more than Tesla’s Model Y.

In total, more than 1.8 million units of this type have been sold, making it the best-selling pure electric vehicle from a Chinese brand to date. Given that the 2026 edition offers a better range, smarter technology and charming looks, it is sure to sell even better in the region.
