There have been rumors that OnePlus will be leaving the US and European markets… again

Just when it seemed like the dust had settled, new rumors emerged that OnePlus would be reducing its global operations again.

A new leak suggests that the company may be preparing to shut down its operations in the US and Europe and continue to focus on Asian markets such as China. It’s not the first time we’ve heard something like this. Similar claims surfaced earlier this year, but the company quickly denied them. But now the same conversation is picking up again.

What’s behind the new rumors?

It may not be a sudden shutdown, but OnePlus is reportedly making a slow retreat.

OnePlus is shutting down in select global markets.

The China business remains unaffected.

The Indian market will mainly receive budget and mid-range products

(Not good news for US, UK and EU customers)

OnePlus has already reduced its visibility in Western markets in recent years as carrier partnerships in North America dwindle, its retail presence shrinks and much of its sales are limited to online channels. In other words, the possible “exit” could just be the final step in a trend that is already underway.

While the report points to a possible exit from the US, UK and Europe, it also suggests that OnePlus could continue to operate in other key markets, particularly Asia. Regions such as China and India are traditionally strongholds of the brand.

But there’s a catch.

Activity in the Chinese market reportedly remains unchanged, although OnePlus India will now receive “mainly” budget and mid-range models.

What that means

If OnePlus actually continues with this strategy, it would likely impact:

  • Availability of future devices in Western markets.
  • Local sales and distribution channels.
  • Long-term presence in regions such as the US, UK and Europe.

However, as the report does not go into details, it is unclear whether this will be a complete phase-out or a gradual phase-out.
