Today it’s raining numerous updates across the Apple ecosystem ahead of the major annual upgrades that will be unveiled at WWDC 2026 in June. In addition to iOS 26.4 and macOS 26.4, Apple has also released the watchOS 26.4 update for its smartwatch range. Here’s everything that comes to your wrist.
No more extra steps during training and a lot more fun
Workouts are the main reason I keep coming back to the Apple Watch, and this update finally makes that experience even smoother. The workout type icon is a clear, eye-catching entry point for any workout and works exactly as you would expect. Now you can tap on the training type and you’re done. This definitely changes the way you start your workout and makes it a lot easier.
On the contrary: Apple has also expanded the emoji keyboard with eight new additions. These include an orca, a trombone, a treasure chest, a hairy creature, a landslide, a ballet dancer and a distorted face. That’s not it. Apple has also cleaned up and fixed bugs on the go, making the overall experience smoother and much more reliable in everyday use.
How do I get this update on your Apple Watch?
To install the watchOS 26.4 update on your Apple Watch, follow these steps. Before you begin, make sure your watch is at least 50% charged and connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.
- Open that Settings app on your Apple Watch.
- Knock Generallythen go to software Update.
- When the update is available, tap Install.
Once you’ve started the process, enter your passcode and follow the on-screen instructions. After that, your watch will do the rest. If you’d rather not update directly on the Apple Watch due to its smaller screen, you can do so from your iPhone instead. To do this, open the Watch app on your iPhone and go to Generallyand then tap Software updateand install the update if available. As with the watch itself, make sure your Apple Watch is at least 50% charged before you begin.
