The Mercedes Benz GLE large luxury SUV and the GLE Coupe Both have received a major facelift inside and out, with sales in Australia confirmed to start sometime in 2027.
Visually, the GLE series takes up the front design of the latest E-Class sedan. There’s a new grille with a star field and a thick frame in shiny chrome or dark-tinted metal trim. The grille surround is black and blends in with the larger new headlight units, which now feature star graphics and improved range.
The options list includes an illuminated grille frame and a three-pointed star logo. Black is also prominently featured in the lower part of the revised bumper, and a strip of black plastic connects the lower air intakes.

The redesigned taillight clusters also feature starlight graphics. On the regular GLE, the taillights are now connected to a chrome strip by a band made of black plastic.
Other changes include sculpted dark gray sills on the GLE SUV, as well as new alloy wheel designs and a slightly less aggressive look for the rear bumper.
Inside, the upper dashboard has been completely redesigned and now features the standard Superscreen setup, which consists of three 12.3-inch displays, including an instrument screen, a central touchscreen and a passenger touchscreen. This is bordered by new round vents and highlighted by a pair of narrow vents in the middle.
The computing platform now runs MB.OS, which can be updated via over-the-air software updates, while user interaction continues to occur through the MBUX interface. The updated virtual assistant is said to be able to handle more complex tasks than before.
For those who opt for the 15-speaker Burmester sound system, there’s a new pair of 3D speakers in the roof and an amplifier rated at 710W (up from 590W on the current unit). The base sound system now features a 150W amplifier mounted in the rear of the vehicle.
A panoramic glass roof is now standard, and an air suspension system with cloud-based predictive damper modulation and an improved 360-degree camera system are also available.
All of the GLE’s engines have been updated, but some, like the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in the GLE 580 4Matichave undergone a more comprehensive revision.
The V8 gets a new flat-plane crank “in preparation for future emissions standards” as well as revised injectors, ports, turbos and exhaust to increase power and torque to 395kW and 750Nm respectively. That’s an increase of 15kW and 20Nm over the previous 580.
The 3.0-liter turbo inline-six cylinder is one level lower GLE 450 4Matic features a new electric compressor and further optimizations to increase torque from 500 Nm to 560 Nm. The plug-in hybrid GLE 450e 4Matic has a more powerful electric motor and a WLTP EV range of 106 km.
| Model | Motor | Performance | Torque | Electric motor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GLE 350d 4Matic | 3.0L I6 turbo diesel | 210kW | 650 Nm | 17 kW/205 Nm |
| GLE 450d 4Matic | 3.0L I6 turbo diesel | 270kW | 750 Nm | 17 kW/205 Nm |
| GLE 450 4Matic | 3.0L I6 turbo petrol engine | 280kW | 560 Nm | 17 kW/205 Nm |
| GLE 450e 4Matic | 3.0L I6 Turbo PHEV | 240kW | 540 Nm | 135 kW/480 Nm |
| GLE 580 4Matic | 4.0 liter V8 biturbo engine | 395kW | 750 Nm | 17 kW/205 Nm |
There are two AMG models in the revised GLE and GLE Coupé series. Both feature a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine producing 330kW and 600Nm, mated to a nine-speed Speedshift TCT automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
In the AMG GLE 53 4Matic+ This engine is supported by a mild hybrid system with an electric compressor and integrated starter generator, which can provide an additional 17 kW/205 Nm if required. This means the SUV can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 4.9 seconds.
At the top of the AMG list for now is the GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ Plug-in hybrid with 135 kW/430 Nm electric drive for a total system output of 430 kW and 750 Nm. The additional power and torque reduce the claimed 0-100 km/h time to 4.5 seconds, which is on par with the V8-powered GLE 580.
