Polestar Australia has confirmed the mysterious “new variant” of Polestar 4 The model, teased last month, will arrive in local showrooms either very late this year or early 2027.
In conversation with Daily Sparkz Speaking at the Australian debut of the new Polestar 5 electric GT, Polestar Australia managing director Scott Maynard said the new model – which “combines the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV with the dynamic performance of Polestar” – could land Down Under by the end of this year.
“The Polestar 4 variant that Polestar Global CEO Michael Lohscheller talked about in the February strategy statement is likely to come out of coverage later this year – it will be a matter of time whether we launch these vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027,” Maynard said.

“Currently they are scheduled to reach (Australia) in December, but I expect they could last until 2027.”
Based on the brand’s current top seller, the more “versatile” Polestar 4 variant is set to cross the estate and SUV worlds and, according to the teaser image, will add a traditional rear window in place of the existing windowless rear design, which relies on HD cameras for rear visibility.
“With this car, Polestar will once again set new standards. Sweden is famous for its station wagons and its SUVs are world-class. We combine the space of a station wagon and the versatility of an SUV with the dynamic performance that is Polestar,” said Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Polestar, at last month’s event.
The new Polestar 4 variant has been teased alongside the next-generation Polestar 2 and the all-new Polestar 7 compact SUV, both of which will be launched in the next 18 months and, alongside the 4, form a core part of the brand’s product offensive.
Spy images posted on Chinese social media platform Weibo and shared on Reddit give us a better look at the as-yet-unnamed Polestar 4 variant, which has a more conventional SUV silhouette than the existing fastback-style midsize SUV.
Aside from the more upright rear and window front, the new Polestar 4 variant otherwise looks very similar to its coupe-style SUV sibling, with a similar beltline and full-length taillight bar.
The new variant is the next taxi in the Geely-owned Swedish brand’s global launch and follows the all-new flagship Polestar 5, which debuted in Australia this week, ahead of deliveries beginning “in the early second half” of 2026.
Last year, Polestar registered 2,373 new vehicles in Australia, a solid increase of 38.5 percent compared to 2024. For comparison, the Chinese-backed Swedish EV specialist handled around a tenth of Tesla’s volume in Australia.
At the top was the quirky Polestar 4 coupe SUV – infamous for its missing rear window – which achieved 1,295 deliveries. At the time it was a long way from the aging mid-size liftback Polestar 2 (746) and then the larger SUV Polestar 3 (332).
The brand’s local boss is hoping for modest but sustained growth this year, helped by the release of the all-new flagship Polestar 5 GT just after mid-year.
Further volume is expected from the three new models that will follow from 2027 to 2028.
