OnePlus has a habit of building phones that make you sit up and take notice, and its latest test is no exception. The company has just lifted the curtain on the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra, a gaming smartphone that looks like it was designed by someone who takes mobile FPS gaming very, very seriously.
It’s based on one thing: gaming
The Ace 6 Ultra doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. OnePlus has been upfront about what this phone is for and aimed it squarely at mobile gamers. At the heart of this pitch is a 165Hz display developed in collaboration with BOE and tuned to match what OnePlus describes Desktop Gaming Monitor Standards. Whether it will live up to this claim in real-world use remains to be seen, but the ambition is clear.
On the contrary, subtlety was apparently not on the mood board here. The Ace 6 Ultra comes in the “Ace Awakening” colorway and features a large reflective Ace logo centered on the back. OnePlus says the effect is achieved through a 3D laser etching process that essentially engraves light into the device, which looks absolutely stunning in the teaser images.
Under the hood, the Ace 6 Ultra reportedly uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, a notable departure from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite in the standard Ace 6. Paired with a rumored 8,500mAh battery and 100W charging cable, this phone seems built to handle marathon gaming sessions without powering down halfway through. A large battery that also charges quickly is the kind of combination that mobile gamers have been asking for, and OnePlus seems to have taken that seriously.
But you probably can’t have it
Here’s the part that stings a little. The Ace 6 Ultra is confirmed to launch in China later this month, but there is no word yet on whether it will be available in global markets. OnePlus has always kept its Ace lineup close to home, with only select models launching internationally at some point. So unless you live in China or are willing to import, this is likely to be a spectator sport for most of us.
OnePlus has also released a teaser for an all-new set of form factor devices set to debut alongside the Ace 6 Ultra. At the moment this is just a vague announcement. Whatever it is, the company seems confident enough to put it on the same stage as a phone it’s clearly very excited about. That alone makes it worth seeing.
