The next development of the Speedmaster.
Since its successful mission as the first Omega in space aboard the Sigma 7 in 1962, the Speedmaster has enjoyed increasing popularity among watch lovers and watch purists. It is a model that can best be described as the epitome of the watch world, representing a literal breakthrough in the industry and the possibilities of what wristwatches can truly achieve. Now, decades after its appearance in space, Omega continues to honor its flagship model with modern interpretations that highlight new materials and movement technologies as part of its continued evolution as an icon. That legacy continues today with the launch of the Speedmaster Dark and Gray Side of the Moon collection, which includes seven distinctive versions with an all-new ceramic finish.
Twelve years after the original Dark Side of the Moon made a splash, Omega’s 2025 finally found its next step. After the Apollo 8 model achieved Master Chronometer certification, the new Dark Side models build on that precision, but also feel lighter, sharper and more deliberate on the wrist. The biggest changes are in the details. OMEGA has refined its ceramic work to create beveled, polished surfaces that subtly play with light, and the cases have been slimmed down slightly while maintaining the familiar 44.25mm case size. Bezels and crowns are now made from Liquidmetal for added durability and the dual-layer ceramic dials are laser brushed.
The Black Edition Co-Axial Master Chronometer 9908 offers a slimmer hand-wound option with a matte dial and a red chronograph hand for a sporty touch. The classic Dark Side of the Moon has been revisited with a layered ceramic dial and a Liquidmetal tachymeter. At the same time, an all-black version further enhances the inconspicuous look with darkened movement parts and Super-LumiNova indices. And for those interested in the history of space, the Apollo 8 Edition is a bit of an eye-catcher as the lunar surface is engraved into the movement, allowing you to see both the near and far sides of the moon. The straps also receive a subtle but thoughtful update. Nylon now has a rubber backing for comfort, and the new rubber options even feature moon patterns on the back as a quiet nod to Omega’s space heritage. The Dark Side 2025 collection is now available in authorized boutiques worldwide.
