BMWAustralia remembers more than 24,000 vehicles across a number of its model ranges – including some below the Mini Brand – as they pose a fire hazard.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, an internal coolant leak may occur in the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler,” the company says in the recall notice.
“In this case, there may be a combination of coolant leaks and recirculated exhaust gases, which can result in a reduction in engine performance and possibly a fire while driving.

“A reduction in engine power while driving and/or a vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident and result in injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and/or property damage.”
The recall affects 24,122 vehicles produced between 2010 and 2022. The model series affected by this recall are as follows, with their series codes in parentheses:
The Mini Cooper (F5x) and the Mini Countryman (F6x) are also affected.
If you own an affected vehicle, you must immediately make an appointment with an authorized BMW dealer to have the EGR cooler replaced free of charge.

This recall comes less than a month after 16,000 BMW vehicles manufactured between 2020 and 2023 were recalled due to a possible defective starter solenoid switch that could cause a short circuit and therefore a vehicle fire.
