Microsoft’s Gaming Copilot AI Assistant is coming to Xbox Series X and Series S consoles later this year. It will improve your console experience by adding an AI-powered helper or assistant.
The announcement comes from Sonali Yadav, product manager of Xbox’s gaming AI partner group, on the panel at the Game Developers Conference. While the feature is already available (in beta) on computers, mobile devices and the ROG Xbox Ally, it’s being expanded to consoles for the first time (via GamesRadar).
What does Microsoft’s Gaming Copilot AI Assistant do?
For those staying tuned, Gaming Copilot’s AI assistant is like a friend who has already watched all the walkthroughs and mission videos, never gets tired of your silly questions, and doesn’t judge you for being stuck on the same level or mission for hours.
In addition to answering your questions about the game or the quest you are currently on, Game Assistant can retrieve personalized player history and Game Pass subscription details (whenever you need them).
If you’ve been following our news feed, you already know that Google has already started rolling out a similar feature.
Xbox isn’t the only one doing this
It’s called Play Games Sidekick – an in-game assistant for Android games powered by Gemini. It can also provide tips, tricks and real-time guides about the game you are playing.
Whether Gaming Copilot AI Assistant or Play Games Sidekick: Both place a live AI in your game that lives and breathes alongside your character. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the AI gaming assistant arms race, as it turns out, is in full swing.
While Microsoft’s Gaming Copilot is in beta on non-console platforms, it’s an important step towards reaching the Xbox console audience. While we don’t have a specific launch date, it’s clear that Microsoft wants you to use its AI gaming assistant and do it better.
