Looks like Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is getting a remake after all

Ubisoft has finally acknowledged what many Assassin’s Creed fans had always suspected: a remake of the legendary Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is actually in development. After years of leaks and speculation, the company has announced the project under the title Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, subtly confirming long-standing rumors in a new franchise update blog post.

Get ready to become a pirate again

Instead of announcing the remake directly, Ubisoft opted for a playful allusion. In the blog post, Jean Guesdon, head of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, referenced the series’ famous theme and suggested that there might be some truth to the rumors surrounding Black Flag. We also get the artwork titled “Black Flag Resynced,” which serves as the first official acknowledgment of a project that has been circulating in leaks.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was originally released in 2013 and remains one of the most popular titles in the franchise thanks to its pirate setting, naval battles and open-world exploration. This title has sold over 11 million copies and is often considered one of the best in the AC series.

More Assassin’s Creed projects in the works

The new Black Flag tease was just one part of Ubisoft’s larger update on the future of this franchise. The studio also briefly mentioned several other projects currently in development, including:

  • Codename Witch: A darker, narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience set in a “pivotal” historical period.
  • Code name Invictus: New multiplayer PvP project developed by the For Honor team.
  • Assassin’s Creed Jade: The mobile role-playing game is set in ancient China.

Additionally, Ubisoft has revealed an update for Assassin’s Creed Unity, which will finally receive a 60fps update on modern consoles.

There’s no official word yet on a release window for Black Flag Resynced, and the company is tight-lipped on gameplay details or platform plans. But for now, Ubisoft’s message is clear: pirate adventures are returning.
