The reborn one Honda Prelude It will be priced at $65,000 in Australia, lower than the Nissan Z and Ford Mustang. Order books open today ahead of the mid-year launch.
Prices for the all-new 2+2-seater hybrid coupe – which will be available in a single model class despite rumors of a more powerful Type R version – include every color choice; Honda remains an outlier when it comes to not charging extra for “premium” paint.
Priced at $65,000, the new Prelude is cheaper than the Nissan Z, which starts at $76,160 (excluding on-road costs), and the Ford Mustang with the turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost coupe, which costs from $72,990 (excluding on-road costs).
It’s also $14,000 cheaper than the Honda Civic Type R (with which it shares the front-wheel-drive platform and suspension and braking components), which was priced at $79,000 before the hot hatch’s stock sold out in 2025.

The Prelude nameplate was last sold by Honda Australia in 2001, when the price before on-road costs was $50,209 – equivalent to $95,980 in 2025, according to the Reserve Bank of Australia’s inflation calculator.
However, compared to its more traditional rivals, the new coupe is more expensive than the Mazda MX-5 RF, the hardtop version of Mazda’s iconic roadster, which costs between $53,790 and $56,790 (excluding on-road costs).
It’s also significantly more expensive than other rear-wheel-drive compact coupes like the Toyota GR86, which costs between $43,940 and $46,090 plus ORCs for the top-of-the-line GR86 GTS and the ToyotaThe Subaru BRZ Twin starts at $47,890 plus ORCs.
Honda Australia has also announced a maximum servicing price of $199 for each of the first five services.
Although service intervals have not yet been confirmed, they are expected to be in line with the Civic’s 12-month/10,000km schedule. Therefore, maximum prices should cover the standard five-year unlimited mileage warranty, which includes five years of roadside assistance.
Designed as a Grand Tourer (GT), the reborn Prelude features front-wheel drive and the same e:HEV hybrid powertrain as the Civic and CR-V. It combines a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine and two electric motors for a combined power of 147kW and 315Nm of torque.
There’s no manual transmission, instead the Prelude comes exclusively with Honda’s direct-drive e-CVT (continuously variable transmission), which features paddle shifters and simulated throttle downshifts.
The chassis includes adaptive dampers from the Civic Type R as well as a two-axle front suspension and four-piston Brembo front brakes riding on 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Prelude closely resembles the Civic, with a similar dashboard design, leather-trimmed sport seats, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google built-in, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Prelude marks a return to sports coupes for Honda, while Toyota is reportedly preparing to revive the hybrid-powered Celica. The world’s largest carmaker and Australian market leader was also spotted testing a mid-engine model, widely seen as a reborn MR2, set to slot in behind the GR GT supercar, although the Supra is currently on hiatus.
