Google has just announced a new AI model in the Gemini 3 series that is focused on rapid response. Say hello to Gemini 3 Flash, which claims to offer “frontier intelligence” and aims to speed up Google searches for users.
What’s the big change?
Gemini 3 will be integrated into AI mode in search. In case you missed it, AI Mode is the new conversational version of Search, now available as its own mode, alongside the vanilla “Blue Link” mode, for images, news, videos and shopping, among other things.
The whole idea behind AI mode is to provide answers exactly as you would get them from an AI chatbot like Gemini and ChatGPT, rather than displaying traditional web links. The AI mode not only gives you the answer but also allows you to ask follow-up questions during the conversation.
With the release of Gemini 3 Flash, AI mode gets a double boost. It’s smarter, faster, and the new standard for AI mode in search and the Gemini app. “Gemini 3 Flash’s strong performance in reasoning, tool usage and multimodal capabilities enable AI Mode to answer your most complicated questions more accurately – without compromising speed,” says Google.
Gemini 3 Flash in AI mode is now available to all users worldwide. Interestingly, hours before release, some keen eyes also noticed the product’s presence on Google’s Vertex AI platform for developers and Canvas collaboration tool. The anonymous user mentioned on Reddit that it was much faster than the older Gemini 2.5 Flash model when creating a website with just a prompt.
The more powerful Gemini models are being expanded
In addition to launching the Gemini 3 Flash model, Google is also promoting the Gemini 3 Pro model for all users in the US. When you open AI mode, you can select “Thinking with 3 Pro” from the model selection drop-down menu. Compared to Flash, this is tailored for more complex queries that require deeper thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
Google is also advancing its most powerful AI image model, Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image), and integrating it into the search experience. Whether it is generating images or editing them with text input, the results will be faster and more accurate.
“These two Pro models with AI creation tools have higher usage limits for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers,” the company says. On the other side of the competition, OpenAI introduced the GPT 5.2 model for ChatGPT and a next-generation AI model for image creation a few days ago.
