Facebook Marketplace’s new AI ends the “is this available?” nightmare.

You know the scenario all too well if you sell on Facebook Marketplace. You publish an article and the news arrives within minutes. “Is this available?” “Still for sale?” “Can you make $20?” Answering these questions takes up time that you simply don’t have when juggling work, home life, and the pile of junk you’ve been meaning to clear out.

Meta believes she has a solution to the chaos. The company is introducing AI-powered tools to Marketplace that automatically process buyer texts. Sellers can now enable automatic replies that pull information directly from their listings, including price, description and pickup location, to instantly answer frequently asked questions.

How AI automatic responses actually work

The mechanics are straightforward. When a buyer asks about something you’ve listed, the technology scans your post and creates a response based on the details you’ve already entered. The AI confirms availability, re-quotes the price, and even provides the pickup location if you set one. You activate this feature during quote creation and see exactly what the system will say before it goes live. You can also edit the answers if you want to adjust the tone or add specific instructions.

The system takes care of recurring inquiries so you can focus on genuine buyers. Instead of typing the same answers over and over again throughout the day, leave the first round to the bot.

More than just automatic replies

The message processing tool represents one part of a larger AI push within Marketplace. Meta is quietly transforming the platform into something more akin to an automated sales assistant that handles the grunt work from listing to sale.

Upload photos of an article and the technology will generate a draft post for you. It fills out the title, writes a description, and suggests a price based on similar items sold in your area. You can go from a pile of clothes or an old coffee table to a live entry in about 30 seconds. The AI also supports shipping by generating prepaid labels and tracking orders in a single dashboard, saving another headache for sellers who want to reach buyers outside of their city.

There is also a layer of trust. Meta adds AI-generated summaries to seller profiles that take into account your listing history, the types of things you sell, and your reviews.

What sellers should know now

The new AI tools will be launched on Facebook Marketplace in the US and Canada. If you sell regularly, it’s worth checking your listing settings to see if the auto-response option is active for your account.

The feature is best suited for simple transactions. When you’re dealing with a large number of the same questions, AI saves minutes on each interaction. For now, the system takes care of the basics. But if this rollout follows the path suggested by Meta, you can expect Assistant to get smarter about negotiations, shipping, and maybe even haggling down the road. Your Marketplace messaging just got a lot quieter.
