As the latest DuPont REGISTRY LIVE auctions near their final hours, two very different cars are quietly grabbing attention for reasons that go beyond price tags or market trends. The first is a backdated homage to the Porsche 911 RSR from 1973, which was brought back to life with a complete Rauh-Welt Termin superwide conversion by Akira Nakai. Its wide arches, aggressive stance and outlaw presence demonstrate a certain obsessive attention to detail that RWB is known for, transforming an already legendary 911 into something that is instantly recognizable. The sight of this level of build offered at auction, rare as it may be, reminds enthusiasts how cars like this cross the line between engineering, artistry and motorsport homage.
At the other end of the spectrum, a first-hand 2010 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (C6) offers a very different story: a story of restraint and preservation. With just 1,021 miles since new, the LS9-powered Corvette remains a reminder of GM’s excellence from that era, a supercharged V8 that made the C6 ZR1 an American icon for car collectors. In a world of heavily modified, racing-inspired machines, the ZR1 stands as an example of precision and patience, showing how value can rise through simplicity and rarity rather than spectacle.
Both are nearing the end of their respective auctions, a reminder that the most seasoned collector cars often travel quietly, appearing briefly in public before disappearing again. For those who follow the rhythms of the collector market, this is a rare opportunity to see how different philosophies of automotive excellence are and how, even online, these cars retain a sense of drama and rarity that makes them forever fascinating.
1982 Porsche 911 SC RWB Backdate RWB
Originally delivered as a factory narrow-body 911 SC from 1982, this special example was converted into a retroactive 1973 RSR homage and widened with a Rauh Welt Termin superwide body kit installed by Akira Nakai. Built in collaboration with the ILLEST brand for a live public build at ComplexCon in Long Beach, California, this car represents one of the earliest RWB conversions in the United States and highlights the cultural intersection between tuner Porsche culture and the streetwear scene.
