The electric one Cupra Borns The Australian reintroduction has been delayed again by the Spanish brand’s local division, about a year after the originally planned return.
Following the unveiling of the facelifted 2027 model in Europe earlier this month, a Cupra Australia spokesperson said the local office was “reviewing the feasibility and timing” of the Born, apparently reversing previously communicated plans to launch the Born VZ hot hatch ahead of this month’s facelift.
“At this time, we are assessing the feasibility and timing of offering the newly announced Born to our market. Once decisions are confirmed, we will provide updates,” the spokesperson said Daily Sparkz.

Daily Sparkz understands Cupra Australia has held off on re-launching the Born, waiting for the facelifted model to make a complete relaunch of the EV hatch Down Under, led by the lower-variant VZ Halo, which may return after a two-year hiatus.
The Cupra Born was last offered in a single variant in Australia and is currently offered in Europe with two battery options and two drive motor options, with the longest range version offering a range of over 550km between charges according to WLTP testing.
The last Born sold down under had the pre-update 77kWh lithium-ion battery and the most powerful 170kW/310Nm rear electric motor at the time. However, the range was later upgraded to a larger 79kWh battery, while the VZ boosts output to 240kW and 545Nm, enabling a 0-100km/h sprint in 5.6 seconds.
In Europe, the updated range will have three motor-battery configurations, all with an electric motor to drive the rear wheels and the ability to drive one-pedal. The larger 79 kWh unit in the revised Born Endurance and VZ variants now offers a WLTP range of around 600 km.
The redesigned Cupra Born aims to address many of the complaints voiced against the interior of the original Born as well as the closely related Volkswagen ID.3.
Physical steering wheel buttons, window switches for all four windows, higher quality cabin materials and a new, larger 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster are the key features of the improvements, which go beyond design changes and all focus on interior quality, ambience and usability.
Matrix LED headlights are also now available for the updated range in Europe.
The VZ features a new launch control setup, as well as paddles to control the amount of regenerative braking and a “new interior sound signature that adds emotional depth to the driving environment.”
