Amazon gives Alexa+ a little more personality. The company has introduced new chat styles that allow you to change how the voice assistant responds to you, from calm and friendly tones to slightly more daring tones.
One of the new options can even add censored profanity and add a naughty touch to conversations with your smart speaker.
What are the new chat styles on Alexa+?
Last month, Amazon introduced three new personalities for Alexa+ that can change the way the assistant speaks.
A Meager The style focuses on short, direct answers without additional comments. Cool delivers answers in a more relaxed and conversational tone. Whereas, Sweet tends to respond warmly and enthusiastically.
These styles don’t change what Alexa can do. You simply change the way it speaks. You can switch between them using voice commands or through the Alexa app settings.
The new Sassy style brings with it sarcasm and censored swearing
The latest addition to Alexa’s growing personality is Sassy Style. This personality gives Alexa a sharper, more playful tone and can respond with sarcasm or witty remarks. In some cases, there may even be censored profanity, something Alexa has traditionally avoided.
However, the Sassy personality style is not available when Amazon Kids is enabled. When you enable the Sassy option in the Alexa mobile app, you’ll see a warning that the style may use explicit language.
For this reason, Alexa requires an adult safety check before activation. On iOS devices, this verification may include a Face ID scan.
You can switch between styles or revert to standard Alexa at any time using voice commands or the Alexa app. Because personality settings are tied to individual devices, you must select a separate style for each device.
The idea of custom AI personalities isn’t entirely new. ChatGPT 5.1, for example, introduced eight different personality styles last year, offering warmer tones and faster responses to suit different conversations.
With this update, Amazon wants to make Alexa+ more personal and conversational. Instead of every answer sounding the same, you can now choose a style that better suits your interaction with your assistant.
