Samsung has confirmed that its Galaxy phones will soon support AirDrop compatibility, allowing you to send files directly between Android and Apple devices.
Last year, Google and Apple introduced AirDrop and Quick Share compatibility on Pixel devices. Google later confirmed that this interoperability would be expanded to more Android phones. Now Samsung is officially participating in this project with its Galaxy series.
When will Samsung bring AirDrop support to Galaxy phones?
According to 9to5Google, Samsung MX Business COO Won-joon Choi said that support will begin with the Galaxy S26 series and will be rolled out gradually through software updates.
The feature will not be available immediately. Instead, delivery will be done in phases, meaning you may have to wait depending on your device. The Samsung Galaxy S26 will be the first device to receive Airdrop support, but the company plans to roll it out to other Galaxy phones over time.
This update builds on Quick Share, Samsung’s existing file sharing system. Once available, your Galaxy phone should be able to more seamlessly recognize and send files to Apple devices without the need for third-party apps or workarounds.
Why is this important?
File sharing between Android and Apple devices has always been messy. You often rely on messaging apps, cloud links, or email to send files.
This update could change that; However, the introduction may take some time. Even Google has only rolled out Airdrop compatibility on a limited number of devices so far, including the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10. That suggests it could be a while before more widespread support reaches older phones.
If this rolls out as planned, you may finally be able to share files across Android and Apple devices without having to think about which phone you’re using.
In other Samsung news, the company is reportedly considering cost cuts across the Galaxy lineup, but this could lead to higher prices and possible hardware compromises on future phones. The company is now also exploring ambitious ideas like a phone with a sliding screen.
