The Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 hosted the unveiling of the Nissan Auro Nismo RS concepta sporty widebody version of the brand’s hybrid hatchback available on the Japanese market.
Nissan says the Auro Nismo RS show car was “designed as a technical validation exercise,” although the company is “exploring the potential to bring this concept to market as a production car.”
Based on the Japanese-market Aura Nismo RS AWD, a hybrid competitor to the Toyota Yaris, the Nismo RS Concept features 145mm wider fenders and a 20mm reduction in ride height for a lower center of gravity and a more aggressive silhouette.
Additionally, aerodynamics have been improved with improvements to the front spoiler and side skirts, as well as a rear diffuser with Nismo’s signature red accents. The front fenders, as well as the side air distributors and the raised rear spoiler, are designed to optimize flow.

Underneath the reinforced bodywork is a more powerful e-Power series hybrid system from the JDM-spec Nissan
The 106kW/250Nm 1.5-litre petrol engine under the bonnet only powers an inverter to generate power for the electric motors. The Nismo-tuned hybrid system offers greater rear-wheel drive distribution for a more dynamic driving experience.
Braking performance has also been improved with four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers sitting behind 18-inch Nismo LM GT4 alloy wheels shod with grippy 245/45 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 performance tires.
Unfortunately, Nissan hasn’t announced any performance figures for the Aura Nismo RS, but it’s said to be a good bit faster than the standard Aura Nismo, which in AWD version has a 100kW/300Nm electric motor at the front and a 60kW/150Nm unit at the rear.
The Aura Nismo RS Concept was joined at Nissan’s Tokyo Auto Salon exhibition by the refreshed Nissan Z – or Fairlady Z as it is known in the domestic market – previewing the Nismo MT, which features a manual transmission for the first time in flagship trim.
Other new Nissan models include the X-Trail Rock Creek Multibed Wildplay, an even more robust and better equipped version of the adventurous X-Trail Rock Creek Edition, already introduced for the Japanese market; while the Leaf Autech joins a range of Autech-badged Nissans in Japan that boast “sporty yet luxurious exterior and interior materials” that give it a very different look.
Also on display at Nissan’s Tokyo Auto Salon booth will be a specially restored Nissan March purchased by Kondo Racing team director Masahiko “Matchy” Kondo, as well as the 2016 Motul Autech GT-R race car, produced in honor of driver Tsugio Matsuda’s retirement from the Japanese Super GT motorsport series.
