Chery has kept BYD at bay by cutting the price of its cheapest plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) for a limited time, securing the title of Australia’s cheapest PHEV.
The model year 2026 (MY26) Chery Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid Urban offered through February 28, 2026 for $34,990, a $5,000 discount; The flagship Ultimate is also offered for $38,990 in-car, also under $5,000.
Prices for the petrol-only Tiggo 7 remain unchanged, and the offer includes a reduction in the plug-in hybrid power premium from $10,000 to $5,000.

Chery says the offer applies to vehicles ordered from participating dealers and is not available to fleet, government or rental buyers.
Rival BYD announced in December that it would launch its Sealion 5 priced at $33,990 in the entry-level version of the Essential, but without the on-the-go cost. Based on a New South Wales postcode, this PHEV SUV is priced at $36,831 per car.
The Sealion 5 Essential combines a 72kW/122Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine, a 145kW/300Nm electric motor and a 12.9kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The electric range is 71 km in the NEDC cycle.
In contrast, the Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid Urban combines a 1.5-litre 105kW/215Nm engine with a 150kW/310Nm electric motor and an 18.3kWh LFP battery for an electric range of 93km on the NEDC cycle.
BYD and Chery’s SUVs compete with cars like the GWM Haval H6 Lux PHEV, which is currently on sale for $40,990 in-car until January 31, 2026.
As well as discounts on its Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid range, Chery is also currently offering finance deals until the end of January on its electric E5 and plug-in hybrid Tiggo 9.
