Samsung believes that your calendar also deserves a dose of artificial intelligence. With One UI 8.5, Samsung makes the Calendar app (version 12.7.05.36) feel more dynamic and context-aware.
The most noticeable change is the addition of AI-generated graphics to the calendar widget, a move that suggests the company believes visual context is important in daily scheduling too. The idea is simple but somewhat unusual. Samsung is introducing AI-generated wallpapers for the countdown widget in Calendar, with graphics created based on the title of an upcoming event.
Instead of a simple card counting down the days, the widget can display an image that reflects what the event is about, making it easier to see at a glance. This feature is listed as part of the update, although initial testing from SamMobile suggests it may not be fully active for all users yet, suggesting Samsung may be rolling it out gradually rather than flipping the switch all at once.
How Samsung is expanding the calendar beyond the visual side
The AI visuals are just part of the update. Samsung is also using this update to make the calendar more flexible and easier to use on a daily basis. Natural language search is added, allowing users to find events by typing conversational phrases instead of exact titles.
This means you can search as usual and still get useful results. The app also gains the ability to hide past schedules, mark reminders as completed directly in the calendar, and attach multiple images to events for additional context.
In addition to the calendar, Samsung is refining its Reminders app with a smaller but practical change. A new early warning setting lets users decide how far in advance they want reminders to notify them. This is useful for scheduling tasks that require more lead time.
Taken together, these updates show that Samsung is simultaneously embracing AI and optimizing quality of life, turning a humble calendar into something more dynamic without completely changing how it works.
These changes arrive alongside a larger set of One UI 8.5 features that are still in beta. Samsung has been testing AI photography tools that let users move objects between images using text prompts, as well as smarter editing features to improve vacation photos. The company has also opened the One UI 8.5 beta program for the Galaxy S25 where you can test the new AI-driven software updates.
