Ford Australia has issued a recall for the Ford Escape PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) due to a fire hazard and is asking owners to work around the issue until it is resolved.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the cell modules installed in the high-voltage battery could be defective, which could lead to an internal short circuit,” the company says in the recall notice.
“A short circuit could result in a loss of drive power. A short circuit could also cause the battery to thermally discharge during charging, which could lead to a vehicle fire.”
The advisory adds: “Do not connect or charge the high-voltage battery above 80 percent and drive only in Auto EV mode.”
“A loss of motive power and/or a vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders and/or property damage.”
It is the latest recall due to a potential fire hazard in the Escape PHEV, following recalls in 2023 due to engine failure and earlier this year due to a battery failure.
