Porsche accidentally gave two 911 S/Ts the same number

Porsche turns a mistake into something special.

The Porsche 911 S/T is one of the most desirable variants of the Porsche 911 and was created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Porsche 911 and the 75th anniversary of Porsche as an automobile manufacturer. Designed with purist driving and historical homage in mind, the Porsche 911 S/T combines the performance of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS with lightweight construction, a manual transmission and a classically inspired design with accents such as commemorative emblems and interiors inspired by vintage Porsche 911s.

The production number of only 1,963 vehicles corresponds to the year the 911 was introduced: 1963. However, Porsche made a mistake when producing the 911 S/T. Two cars happen to bear the number 1,724: one owned by Pedro Solís Klussmann from Guatemala and the other owned by Suzan Taher from around the world. For Klussmann, rather than Taher, the number had an important meaning since he, his mother and grandmother all had birthdays on the 17th, while his father’s birthday is on the 24th. Suzan Taher’s car should have number 1742. A mixup in the manual ordering process caused the error.

Meanwhile, the two 1724 cars couldn’t be more different. Finished in Shore Blue, Pedro’s 911 S/T features the Heritage Design package and an interior with cloth seat centers and a carbon fiber roll cage. However, Suzan’s car is painted in a “Paint to Sample” color called “Rose Red”, which was originally introduced in the ’70s as “Fraise”. The matching interior is upholstered in Guards Red.

Both cars were collected in Zuffenhausen, with both owners coming together for a special day where everyone was presented with a photo of both cars and both owners were able to witness the archiving of the false plaque to mark the error in history. Although it began as a mistake, the incident became an opportunity for Porsche to enrich the personal stories of its owners and demonstrate Sonderwunsch’s bespoke craftsmanship excellence with two very different cars brought together with a unique story.
