Your Pixel could soon be better at preventing accidental pocket-sized dialing

Google is finally addressing a long-standing problem that has frustrated Pixel users for several years. The company recently marked the accidental touch prevention issue that has existed since the days of the Pixel 6 as “fixed” in its public bug tracker, suggesting a fix is on the way.

Pixel phone users have long struggled with unintentional actions, such as making unintentional calls, opening apps on their own, and turning on the flashlight while the device is in their pocket. While brands like Samsung and OnePlus offer a built-in Accidental Touch Protection feature that uses the proximity sensor to disable touch input when the device is in a pocket or purse, Google hasn’t yet offered a similar solution for its Pixel lineup.

According to a new report from PiunikaWeb, that’s about to change. A recent comment from a Google engineer in the issue tracker confirms that the issue has been fixed and users should expect the fix in an upcoming release. Since the fix wasn’t included in the December 2025 Pixel update, it’s expected to arrive in a future update, possibly in January or as part of the next feature drop.

How the fix works remains unclear

Google hasn’t shared exactly how the update will work. The company could either introduce a new accidental touch protection option in the Settings app, or make changes behind the scenes that allow the phone to detect when it’s in your pocket and automatically block touch inputs.

For anyone who has experienced scam calls, unintentional app launches, or similar glitches on their Pixel, the solution can’t come soon enough. With it now in sight, Pixel users can finally look forward to a more reliable and less frustrating experience when they’re away from their phone.
