The OnePlus 15R comes with the company’s “best selfie camera ever” as a 32-megapixel front camera was officially confirmed just days before the phone’s global launch.
It replaces the OnePlus 13R, which really impressed us earlier this year and features a 16MP selfie snapper.
The 15R is not only the first OnePlus phone with a 32-megapixel front camera, but also boasts a few other innovations: For the first time in an R-series cell phone, the selfie camera has autofocus.
Additionally, 4K video recording at up to 30 frames per second on the front camera will also be available on the 15 for the first time. The 13R only offered 1080p (Full HD) footage on the front camera.
What else is there to reveal?
This isn’t the first time OnePlus has confirmed details of the 15R ahead of its launch. We previously learned that the phone will come with a massive 7,400mAh battery, which is even larger than the hefty 7,300mAh battery on its flagship sibling, the OnePlus 15.
There should also be a decent amount of power available as the OnePlus 15R will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, which offers significant improvements in CPU, GPU and NPU performance compared to its predecessor, while also consuming less power thanks to its 3nm design.
We also know that the screen will deliver gaming at 120 frames per second and a refresh rate of 165Hz. It also has IP66/68/69/69K dust and water resistance, making it the phone with the industry’s most comprehensive IP ratings.
We’re still waiting to find out how much the OnePlus 15R will cost, but we’re hoping it maintains the $599 of the 13R – a phone that we said would cost a top $600 this year. Well, the 15R might have a reason to steal that title from its older family member.
The OnePlus 15R launch event will take place on December 17 and will launch alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2 tablet and Watch Lite. You can watch the launch event live as it will be livestreamed on the OnePlus website.
