Google will repair your broken Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL display for free

On December 8, 2025, Google quietly introduced an “Advanced Repair Program” for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. A limited number of devices in the series are experiencing display issues. Additionally, the company has launched an “Extended Warranty Program” for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

The eligibility criteria for the repair program are a bit strange, however, as it requires a “vertical line on the display” that “runs from bottom to top.” Additionally, “display flickering on the Pixel 9 Pro devices also qualifies.” Google also clarifies that broken displays or cover glasses, as well as damage such as liquid ingress, can cause a device to be disqualified.

While the extent of the issues affecting the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL is clear, Google is not clarifying the issues with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. “Google is offering an extended warranty program to ensure support for affected Pixel 9 Pro Fold devices for three years from the date of original retail purchase,” the official support page says.

However, the page states that affected Pixel 9 Pro Fold owners “may be eligible for a free replacement.” The move marks Google’s most significant post-launch support effort for its flagship Pixel phones, including the foldable. By acknowledging a hardware defect and offering a repair or replacement at no additional cost, the company values long-term customer trust.

If you own one of the three smartphones – the Pixel 9 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, or the Pixel 9 Pro Fold – and the device is experiencing vertical lines, flickering, or other hardware issues, you can get the issue fixed for free. All you need to do is visit the support pages linked above, click “Check Repair Options” and enter your IMEI or serial number to start the repair process.

The success and user satisfaction of this repair program could set a new benchmark for Google’s after-sales support, especially for older models.
